Attendance Policy
Attendance is extremely important in Rowing. To be our best, every athlete needs to attend every practice and regatta. You will improve your technique, fitness and racing. This in turn will make our whole team faster!
General: The coaches expect you to be at each practice, but we also understand that things do come up. Please e-mail your coach by 4 PM on Saturday prior to each week and let us know if you cannot make a particular practice and your reason. Please copy your parents on all communication.
Regattas: Attendance at regattas is mandatory.
SAT/ACT Dates: Sometimes an SAT/ACT test date will conflict with our regattas. Please check our Race Calendar so that you can schedule your tests for non-regatta dates. We also have the SAT/ACT test dates on our Team Calendar that work best with our schedule. The best way to manage Rowing and SAT/ACT tests is to prepare during the summer and take the tests in the fall. This year, the Nov 7 SAT does not work with Hooch. The 2026-2027 SAT Test Dates that do not conflict with our regattas are Aug 22, Sept 12, Oct 3, Dec 5, March 6, May 1 and June 5. The 2026-2027 ACT Test Dates that do not conflict with our regattas are July 11, Sept 19, Oct 17, Dec 12 and July 10.
Vacations & Days Off: We have days off. Please check our Team Calendar for those dates. Please schedule appointments, college visits and vacations during the summer and days off from school and/or practice or early dismissals from school. Vacations should be scheduled during Thanksgiving, Christmas and over the summer. We have practice during STA’s Spring Break.
Illness: If you become ill, please text your coach as soon as you know you cannot make practice. Rest up and take care of yourself!
Day of Cancellation/No Show: These types of absences are very disruptive because your coach already put you in a line-up. Your boat is counting on you. Please be considerate and give your coach the required notice per above.
STA Days Off & Early Dismissals: Our practices occur at their stated time even when STA has no school or has an early dismissal. We typically practice at 8 AM on days when STA has no school.
